Ceremonial, premium and culinary are useful starting categories, but importers should approve matcha by product code, specification and performance in the final recipe.
Choose a matcha grade by the product you are making. Evaluate colour, flavour, texture, dosage and cost in the actual drink or food, then tie the approved sample to a written product code and specification.
What do matcha grade names mean?
Grade names are supplier categories rather than a universal purchasing specification. H2 Green’s reviewed product literature lists ceremonial, premium and culinary categories. Availability and characteristics must be confirmed for the current product options.

Why colour alone is not enough
A dry powder photograph cannot establish flavour, dosage or performance in a recipe. Lighting and screens also affect perceived colour. Request a current sample and use a repeatable preparation method.
Questions to put in the RFQ
- What is the product code and ingredient declaration?
- Which applications is this option intended for?
- What are the MOQ, bulk pack and current lead time?
- Which specification and test documents are available?
- Can the sample be identified by batch or lot reference?
- What remaining shelf life will be agreed at dispatch?
Approve a measurable result
Record the sample code, batch reference, recipe, powder dose, preparation method and score. Agree the product identity and written requirements before the bulk order. This is more useful for repeat purchasing than relying on a grade name.
